Happy Mother’s Day!

DSC_1520

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s out there…. Old, Young, Angels now in heaven….. Not a one of us would be here without having had a Mother. So thank you to all the Mom’s for putting up with kids like me! Even when we are grown up….. I love my life as a Mom and I think my Mom did too. So thanks Mom. Necklace above is a piece I have not taken off for a few months and just gifted to a friend for Mother’s Day. The necklace to follow I finished on Friday. It has been a stone in the waiting. I had it in a bezel for a long time and finished it on Friday on a whim…… Sometimes it works like that. Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/151011641/desert-druzy-stone-sterling-silver

Thank You Again Appleton

Had Octoberfest in Appleton Wisconsin this weekend. Have never done that show before and it’s not an Art show. It’s a music festival with some booths at it…..and lots of beer. I get a little nervous about the beer factor. It makes for a tough crowd. At an Artshow people are polite and calm and interested in what you do. At a music festival the general population that’s drinking can start to get a little rough on the merchandise. It’s entertaining to watch unless they pick up a stone necklace and drop it. So, Katie and I had to be on our toes watching everything and everyone like hawks.

It was all good though and a beautiful day. A man becoming one of my best and favorite customers bought the following piece. Thanks Bob! You flatter me! The piece is perfect for him.

I don’t have a show now until November. So it will be nice to create for the next 6 weeks. I’ll be able to post some how to things on here too.

Thanks again Appleton….see you next year at Octoberfest.

Monster Size Bezel

This bezel is huge for a huge stone. It was very time consuming to make just the bezel. It’s 20G sterling so it does not move very easily and the heat to solder the piece together was WOW! Hot!

When you are working with metal of this size make sure everything is annealed often. If I tried to solder this bezel to the back plate and did not anneal it first (heating it and cooling it so it’s soft) it would move as I heated it to solder it and it can’t move. It had to be just right. You  can’t manipulate it very much after it’s soldered together so make sure it’s perfect before you make it permanent. Annealing helps things not change shape during soldering.

Chain is handmade as well. It’s a beauty. I have to take some more pics of the stone. It’s a desert drusy I purchased from Gary Wilson at the Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee.
