One Week To Go….

gift wrapped jewelry

One week to go before it gets too late to be shipping anything for Christmas… (If I don’t make any sense, sorry. I am a little tired. I will rest in a week.) I have been shipping all over the world and it gets a little scary because someone’s gift usually arrives 8 weeks late…. really, that has happened (but only one time and it was far far away.) As soon as we decided to give up on it ~ it arrived. Christmas time is so busy my shop looks like a war zone. I have an extra table set up just for each project and it’s current stage… with lots and lots of notes. I usually make people write me some kinda note with all of their info on it and that somehow gives me a visual of them and what they want.

This ring was one of the Christmas projects. It was a 5mm diamond ring that was a customers great grandmothers. I used the 18k gold from the ring and diamond to create this ring…. I did not have a single piece of scrap left from the original ring…it’s all in here. I melted the gold down, milled it out and cut out the sun shape. The rest of the gold is the stars… Ring band and moon are sterling silver. Sterling band is oxidized. This is probably the prettiest ring I have ever made and it went to a great lady.

This is just beginning… no done yet and probably won’t get done in time for Christmas but maybe?

18k gold pendant

This stone is a favorite of mine. It is Vista Jasper. It has really pretty light blue, green and burnt orange colors all watercolored together. Accent stones are trillion cut london blue topaz and tourmaline. 18K Gold and Sterling Silver. With the exception of wedding rings this will probably be most expensive piece in materials I have ever made.

What the heck is this? A black tourmaline trapped in a crystal… It’s great. I have another similar stone shown in the next picture but it is just not as refined as this stone. You cannot go surfing in this necklace though…it’s a needs a careful owner. Maggie ~ I know you are out there  and No, You Cannot Go Surfing In Your Jewelry.. I will find you at the beach and repair your jewelry for you.

Another captured crystal necklace. I put an amethyst setting on top of it with the PUK welder… all stones in place. It’s amazing to be doing that from my stand point.

Great Stones! Great Fun!

DSC_0002

This is a repair job… The earring with the green stone and garnet (garnet is almost black in the picture) was purchased by a customer of mine in Poland by an artist. She lost the other earring. I told the customer I had a very similar sized Mexican Fire Opal and could possible make her an earring that would NOT match but be a great alternative to not wearing her sentimental earring. Here is the repair…. The earring with the yellow stone I made to ‘not match’ her other earring. I hope she loves them and how different they are. You would be surprised to know that people often never notice if you are wearing two different earrings. Your face is just enough space for their brain to not pick up the difference. This being said most customers are very picky about their earrings being perfect matches while they examine them before they purchase them. I always grin to myself because slight difference will never be noticed… you can get away with wearing an entirely different pair all together.

White Topaz Engagement Ring: https://www.etsy.com/listing/180070791/engagement-ring-sterling-silver-white?

This I have listed as an alternative engagement ring. It can be any kind of ring however and I will probably make it with some other stones including a diamond. I love the ring. It’s comfortable, durable and looks like a classic on the hand.

This is an usual setting. It’s a rose cut white topaz and is set in a domed setting. I would really like to thank Gerry Lewy for coming to Green Bay for his diamond setting class. I have grown leaps and bounds in my ability to set stones because of him. Thank you Gerry!

Lake Michigan ‘In All Of Her Glory” inspired necklace… Crazy Lace Agate and Iolite Rosecut Gemstones. Lake Michigan looks like a dangerous, icy ocean right now. We are experiencing the coldest winter here in 35 years and some of the Great Lakes you can walk out on to for miles. This does not happen very often so take advantage of the ice caves they won’t be back maybe in my lifetime. This is a bubble chalcedony stone. It’s a very feminine coral pink which is a favorite color of mine. It’s small enough for Roni…. but probably not her style. (Love ya Roni!!!! Small enough for Roni is going to be my new baseline for stones of this size.) I could not resist the interesting texture of this stone. Last but not least is this Landscape Jasper…. doesn’t it look like the desert… It is so perfect. I was going to mess with it in an elaborate setting and I just could not do it. The stone is really all there is. I couldn’t make it any better than it is by itself. Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/180274620/sterling-silver-landscape-jasper?ref=listing-shop-header-2

I had two friends that went to Tucson and purchased stones for me. Thank you. What a Godsend. You have no idea how badly I would like to go there and I will get there someday. Thank you though to my friends that shopped for me! Awesome stuff that I will post next time.

I have a show in about two weeks. I am looking forward to it. Green Bay’s Artigras at Shopko Hall, March 8, 9th. It’s a nice break in the winter to get out and see friendly faces. Stop in if you can and say hi.

Event the 29th and Terri’s Ring

Come to this and have a great time! I’ll be there torching weather permitting. Lots of other artists too. Can’t wait to make an iron tile. We are carving ours at home right now. I’ll show you that later.

This ring will be a spinner ring. The center band is an older diamond ring of the customers. The side bands I made from melted down gold ingots that i showed the other day. I rolled the ingots in my rolling mill to make nice, perfect square ring stock from her melted down gold. It’s always amazing how perfectly gold works. No wonder people have been creating with it for thousands of years.

This ring is a sweet little number from Dryhead Agate…love the stone and its pink feminine hues.

Last but not least…. Wavelite Specimen Stone Necklace…. Beautiful green, textured surface.

Bead and Button Show….

DSC_1930

Bead and Button Show was again great! It is the largest bead show in the world and gives you goosebumps when you walk in the doors for the first time. Don’t get me wrong as to it is not all fun….it is fun but a lot of work. You have to be organized and be ready to stand, haul, walk and talk for hours on end.

I want to thank Lissa from Silver Waves Jewelry for her help. It made classes absolutely great and the hauling done in half the time.

Met some great people while I was there: above picture is of Thomas Mann’s Bench Pin. I got to meet him and speak with him briefly about his sculptures in New Orleans. He has been a jeweler I have admired for years in not only his designs but the building of a company. After we spoke for a while he gave me these ‘Pocket Hearts’ which I will treasure and keep in my satchel for good luck. Thanks Thomas Mann for the talismans tokens!!!

I also met the young woman in charge of Rosy Revolver Jewelry Co. I have always admired Rosy Revolver Jewelry for it’s unexpected, bold, yet feminine style. Jessica is an amazing talent. I hope she will consider teaching at Bead and Button. She would be a great addition to the current line up of great metalsmiths at Bead and Button. Besides if she decides to teach we can get a beer together or whisky or water or whatever our tired brains can tolerate after teaching all day.

Jerry at Bead and Button: Thank You for your work. You make all the classrooms perfect. Thank You!!!!!!!! Jerry is in charge of the nuts and bolts on the classroom floor. He is great. He will never read this because he is too busy making something for next year so that we can have cool stuff in our classrooms.

Last person I would like to thank is Bret from Arrow Springs Torch Company. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bret set up some great torches for me and will supply all of my torch needs next year so I am not hauling torches. I basically haul my entire studio to Bead and Button. It’s crazy. Meeting Bret was great. I don’t have to haul my three torches, regulators, etc…. Bret is going to bring them. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! I can teach a real silversmithing class with lots of torches for everyone to use. No limitations….. on fire power. Awesome. Next year we are making some real settings, a ring, a pendant and bracelet! Yippeeee!!!!!!!!

This is just one of the many stones I purchased at Bead and Button. There are about 5 companies there that supple cab stones and I get all of my stones for the year with the exception of purchasing from TheAgateWorks.etsy.com. The Agate Works is in Green Bay WI so I can visit them in person. I don’t purchase cabs online. It just doesn’t work out.

DSC_1934

Can’t wait to set this stone. Wow…. I’m in love.

DSC_1932

I don’t have a single picture of class. I will get on from Lissa as we took a lot pics with students, etc. Again, thank you students. Please comment on class if you can. I had a lot fun and I hope you all make and make and make and make….. See you next year at the Largest Bead Show In The World: The Bead and Button, Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Happy Mother’s Day!

DSC_1520

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s out there…. Old, Young, Angels now in heaven….. Not a one of us would be here without having had a Mother. So thank you to all the Mom’s for putting up with kids like me! Even when we are grown up….. I love my life as a Mom and I think my Mom did too. So thanks Mom. Necklace above is a piece I have not taken off for a few months and just gifted to a friend for Mother’s Day. The necklace to follow I finished on Friday. It has been a stone in the waiting. I had it in a bezel for a long time and finished it on Friday on a whim…… Sometimes it works like that. Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/151011641/desert-druzy-stone-sterling-silver
