Earrings Mostly…except a Roni Necklace

Red agate earrings

Made a bunch of new earrings… the making of more than 20 bezels in a day was nice and thoughtless. I needed that. I have more earrings that are not done yet but here are some… Red Agate Stone earrings with a nice swinging hinge on the ear wire, Link:https://www.etsy.com/listing/188736908/sterling-silver-red-agate-stone-earrings?

Peach agate necklace

This is the Roni necklace… Beautiful Peach hued agate, but really small for my usual style but I know one person that will like it.… hmmm??? Link:https://www.etsy.com/listing/188740211/peach-agate-sterling-silver-necklace?

These are special. This stone is really hard to find. It is a Fairburn Hills Agate. I had a just two stones a while ago and found these two with my stone guy recently…very hard to come by. No one has the material to cut and it’s gorgeous. Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/188736324/sterling-silver-rare-fairburn-hills?ref=shop_home_active_8

Pretty little hand made ear wires… going into my supply shop, Midnight In Savannah on Etsy: http://www.midnightinsavannah.etsy.com

Well, it’s been a very long week. I’d like to have something to say but I just don’t. I’ll just keep working and hope for better days.

I would like to thank everyone that has sent their heartfelt support. Truly, thank you. It helps.

My One and Only

My One and Only….

I really could not have enjoyed making a piece more. This necklace has everything I love ~ a huge crazy lace agate stone, a huge piece of sterling silver to capture the stone, and a handmade and hammered heavy link chain. The pictures are a joke. I can’t capture it’s weight in the pictures. I bet it weighs a pound… ha ha ha ha!!!!! Am I insane? It looks amazing worn short like a choker.

Sara’s Ring: Made this ring as a custom order last week. It is a 8×6 oval diamond, white gold engagement ring with two other wedding bands. The thicker wedding band is cut out to fit the oval diamond locking it in place. The other white band is for Sara to go to work as she is a veterinarian. She wanted the engagement ring to be a brushed matte finish and look like she just dug it out of the ground. The other two rings are polished. It is hard to make a 1 carat diamond look rugged. She is wearing it now! Thanks Sara & Ben for such a great custom piece. Wedding is this summer ~ Best Wishes to them both!!!!

Need a heavy headpin? I made three hundred of these this week, jeez… someone out there is busy wire wrapping something???? Thanks for the great order from my supply shop. These work great on focal pendant beads and large hole beads, like handmade glass beads of Tammy Raes: http://www.glassbytammyrae.etsy.com .  I have these available in any gauge you need but 20 and 18 gauge work the best.

Making A Cube, Azurite Necklace, and Snowman Cookies!

Made a hollow cube necklace as a special request for a good customer. It’s a fun techincal task that I enjoy. There are several ways to do it. I have made a cube with two piece folded in three equal sections but I find that it’s harder to make a nice fit. Here are two equal pieces. File a groove down the center. The file shown only has teeth on the edges of the file, very handy for this kinda work.
IMG_1537

Now bevel or miter the edges so they will all fit together nicely. Make sure you start with heavy enough material so you have something to file. This is 18G sterling.

IMG_1538

I bent these using a parallel pliers. You can use a vise or any thing that has a true, straight edge. Do not use a regular flat nose pliers. Those are at an angle and you don’t want that.

IMG_1540

Put your sides together and solder on another sheet of silver to the bottom. Saw out your cube.

IMG_1541

Make a tiny hole in the last sheet to solder on. I made mine in the center as I am going to solder a jump ring over the hole as the last step. If you do have a hole your piece will explode from pressure. (It’s no fun but sometimes you want that….make really cool shapes. Wear eye protection and ear protection maybe even face protection if you decide to explode something.)

IMG_1545

I am covering the hole with a jump ring and adding a chain so the cube is centered as a pendant. You can fill  the hole with a piece of tapered sterling wire. Gently tap it in and file. You will be surprised that you can’t even find the spot when you are finished!

This next necklace I made yesterday and it’s a beauty. It’s big. The pictures do not really show how big it is. Isn’t that just like me to make something massive! The stone is 1.5 inches tall, 2.5 inches long and 2 inches wide, full of texture and sparkling azurite crystals.

Coral Fossil Stone Necklace

I just made this for tomorrows show. It’s a really interesting, organic piece. I did not have a vision for this coral fossil but it just came together as my hands worked. I had no plan.

This is a force to be reckoned with. This pendant is almost 4 inches long. It’s one of the largest necklaces I have ever made. The leather cord is as thick as my pinky finger. The end to the cording is handmade by me as well. It’s a statement piece for sure.

Happy Mother’s Day!

DSC_1520

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s out there…. Old, Young, Angels now in heaven….. Not a one of us would be here without having had a Mother. So thank you to all the Mom’s for putting up with kids like me! Even when we are grown up….. I love my life as a Mom and I think my Mom did too. So thanks Mom. Necklace above is a piece I have not taken off for a few months and just gifted to a friend for Mother’s Day. Here is the link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/151009684/angel-wing-cross-necklace-sterling

The necklace to follow I finished on Friday. It has been a stone in the waiting. I had it in a bezel for a long time and finished it on Friday on a whim…… Sometimes it works like that. Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/151011641/desert-druzy-stone-sterling-silver

Orange-sickle Fresh!

20130502-221458.jpg

Made this today…. Was just inspired by the two stones color. I did not purchase them together but they just found their way to one another in my box of stones. The leather cord ends I made as well. They are not store bought. I made about 50 end caps for this size leather cord (3mm.) why did I do this? It’s a tedious job…. Well, all the 3mm cord ends looked like store bought junk. Just could not bring myself to use them. It is a simple unnoticeable thing but at least they are not commercial and lame looking.

Love the necklace though and been playing with taking pictures on this old box. It’s an ammunition box and says all kinds of great stuff on it, ‘danger flammable explosives’ and ‘PYRO’. What a great find for me…appropriate.

More ‘Prayer Earrings’ being sold…all the money to Cancer Charity ~ Thanks!

20130502-222408.jpg

Last but not least Angel Wing Earrings…. I might have posted these before but I’m just playing around with pics on this groovy old wooden box.

Spring Day Today

DSC_1089

I have so much to share and some of it is the weather…. It’s been just awful. It has snowed several times in April…. jeez. So, today it’s finally 50 degrees. What a blessing. A sign of spring is that the gallery near me ‘The Flying Pig’ reopened for their season of tourism. Yippeee! This is great! They have been open a couple weekends now and will open on a daily basis in May. You can visit them in Algoma WI on Hwy 42 (one mile south of town) or visit http://www.theflyingpig.biz.

DSC_1086

On a very sad note: The Urban Princess Boutique in Philadelphia has had a fire. It’s an old style downtown building and the store next door to them completely burned down including apartments above. A fireman was killed in the blaze. My heart goes out to the ladies of the Urban Princess. It was their dream to open that store.

They have handled the entire situation with professional grace keeping everyone informed as they had many consignment items. Not that it’s important in the grand scheme of things but my jewelry was really not harmed. It was in a locked glass case that took on some water and smoke damage. The have ‘content’ insurance as well which is in our consignment agreement. I now have my own consignment agreement and my own wholesale agreement for retailers. In a situation just like this it is very important. Bad, unforeseeable things happen. I hope they can recover and reopen their store but it’s going to take them a lot time to just catch their breath. The building is being torn down by a 7 story crane as we speak.

DSC_1126

Made some really great stuff this past week in the shop and busy as ever which is good because the summer season will be here quickly. I have to get ready for teaching at the Bead and Button and that is a ton of prep work. Also I will have a nice spread in a jewelry magazine this summer. Yipppeeeee! Thanks to those nice folks that contacted me. I have to proof read the article today. I  can’t tell ya what magazine yet as I am not sure I am suppose to. I will let you know when it’s finalized and off to everyone’s mailbox. Piece of above is a crazy lace agate and citrine. I really enjoyed the hinge style pendant. It creates a lot dynamic that the pendant moves. The bullet shapes on the ends of the hinge are citrines. I could not get a good picture of this piece but I have not taken my time trying either. I will try harder on the photo later.

This is an Laguna Agate and Amethyst…. The purple hues make this stone a favorite of mine.

DSC_1201

This stone is 4 inches long – a whopper! The gemstones are peridot and pink topaz. The pink topaz is a vibrant hot pink, striking.

Last but not least these are some custom wings I have done for people that requested them. The oxidized pair of wings are the best wings yet! They are just the right size about one inch tall and super cool looking together. The tiny wings also look great as a pair. The earrings were by request from a great local customer – thanks!!!!!!!

Off to the shop to get to work…..Might have to take a jog outside for lunch today. It’s finally sunny.

Made this today…nice to get back to work after eating everything in site for a week. Back to the norm and it is good. It is 2013 and I have a pile of receipts/tax papers here for anyone who wants to enter them into the computer, eeekkkkkk!!!!!!!!! The paper stack is only about 6 inches tall.

I have lots to share though and will be doing so in the upcoming month. It’s time to make make make jewelry – get pics done and enter into shows – and get new marketing products made and make make make jewelry, I said that already.

I am going to go exercise off my Christmas cookies now. Looking forward to some awesome tools I just bought but they did not come to the door today. I will share them with you when they come!

New Durston Dapping Set

New Forming Block with the grooves and matching pieces to each groove

New Fretz Stake Set – big score!!! can’t wait to use that! With my Fretz hammers

New Chasing Set – the pitch, bowl, and Complete set of Chasing tools…. been wanting to do that forever and started doing it with a screwdriver and a sandbag: but that is pretty limited Chasing.

Have a great night! Happy New Year!!!! Saying Hello to 2013!!!

New Stuff and a Repair

Queen of Hearts Rhodocrosite Stone Necklace….

Labradorite Brush Finished Ring….

Kyanite Stone Necklace…..

Repair Moonstone Ring… Goofy liner in it to compensate for the stone not being cut evenly. One side of the stone was sloped more than the other. This half of a liner in the setting let the one side be pushed down while the other side sat flush. Funny, but it works. Sometimes you will find sawdust in rings or other goofy things to prop up the stone in some way. Ring is good as new and one size smaller. Amazing that the repair is as much as the ring probably cost.

I like repairs. They can be tedious but you learn a lot and they are financially a good choice to do.
