Maggie Roschyk

Maggie Roschyk… is an amazing woman. She has become my friend over the last couple years and I have gotten to know her through Tammy Rae and hanging out with her at the Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee. She is often on my mind a mentor, friend, artist…..creative, funny, loving….. The book above is hers and it is great! It is not just full of pretty pictures but good and sound directions, very well done.

While I was at Bead and Button I got to see Maggie for just a short time. She gave me a little barrette that had been on her workbench for years and years…She got it from an indian reservation and had it in her small bowl of inspiration and token memories on her bench. She passed it along to me and I have some great ideas for it…… because I think I want to incorporate it into a necklace by bezel setting the barrette possibly with the stones shown. Hee Hee 🙂 Next time you see it Maggie it will be around my neck 🙂

This necklace is already spoken for but was a lot of fun to make! Prongs were a great way to make this stone secure as it was rough around several edges the prongs nestled into the crevices perfectly.

Crazy Lace Agate and Garnet Earrings… So colorful they look like candy…

Hope everyone is having a great summer. It is settling down here around my house which was much needed. Kids are off of school and into all kinds of things. Wild Prairie sponsored a soccer team for the second year in a row and I am the assistant coach (I don’t even know the rules. I am a terrible coach. Thank goodness for the real coach.) …our jerseys are bright pink, ha! How appropriate! I will send some pics of the team and blur out the kids faces so I don’t get anyone mad at me. It is really fun. Our team is under 12 years old and they are just a fun age. You go to practice and it’s instant laughs.

Next event: See below flier… Will be a great time as the place is great, band is great, food is great! See you there if you can come!

The class schedule is now available at Peninsula School of Art. I will be teaching two classes in September there. One class is business related: ‘How To Launch Your Etsy Shop‘ It will focus on the ins and outs of Etsy, setting up your shop and navigating the e-commerce so you have the best chance of being noticed among the masses. Class is Sept 15 & 16, Monday and Tuesday. Link: http://www.peninsulaschoolofart.org/le1402.html

Sept 17,18,19th will be a stone setting class. During this class we can really do almost anything. The school is completely equipped with all the tools we need to make rings, pendants, fold forming, etc… From the very basics to the most advanced please come and learn and experiment with new techniques. I will have an assistant so if you need concentrated help with just one area there will be time for that or if you have never made a thing in your life and are terrified of a torch ~ no worries ~ just come to class. Link to class: http://www.peninsulaschoolofart.org/je1415.html

I can’t sign you up…here is the catalog and links to the school; http://www.peninsulaschoolofart.org

Will have an accurate schedule of summer events now posted on this blog on the events page so hope to see some of you this summer. One of the galleries I sell in, The Flying Pig, opened officially last weekend and is open on weekends now until middle of May when they will be open daily. I will be dropping of jewelry there this coming Friday. They usually re-do the layout of their gallery over winter while they are closed. I am excited to see it. I know there is an 18 foot fish moving sculpture hanging from their ceiling… yes, it swims, really…. I saw that the day they had scaffolding up to install it. What an amazing piece! Got to go and get to work! It’s Monday morning, much to do.

Stop in for a visit and have some hot chocolate! A few jewelers will be in attendance: myself, Tammy Rae, and Deb Meyer. Possibly some other artists that I am not aware of. We will have things on display and also be working on new things as well. Would be nice to share some Holiday Cheer!

I made Tammy Rae something she is going to flip over…. Can’t wait to show her but it’s a secret for now…. It is an interchangeable, unscrewable part that is one of a kind sterling, hmm…… She is going to love it for her glass. Screw it together and screw it apart ~~~~ embedded in sterling silver~~~ change out her colorful bead~~~completely original and one of a kind. Not your typical store bought finding. I will show you next week after she sees it.

The Flying Pig

IMG_0665

Absolutely super day at The Flying Pig Gallery. It was their 10th Anniversary and I saw more people I had not seen in a long time. It was great. Thank you so much Dawna and Roxanne for stopping out along with Amber and her sisters. Everyone there had a big smile with the band playing, iron pouring and wine pouring. What’s Not To Love!

Iron pour.

IMG_0669Can you see me? I’m way in the background and no you really can’t see me. The only picture I have of myself is terrible. Wouldn’t want to scare you.

IMG_0668

See I said everyone was smiling…. Love you R & S

The following pics are of Summertime in Wisconsin and new things I have made over the past couple weeks.

And this is why we live here…..

Event the 29th and Terri’s Ring

20130618-123230.jpg

Come to this and have a great time! I’ll be there torching weather permitting. Lots of other artists too. Can’t wait to make an iron tile. We are carving ours at home right now. I’ll show you that later.

20130618-123507.jpg

This ring will be a spinner ring. The center band is an older diamond ring of the customers. The side bands I made from melted down gold ingots that i showed the other day. I rolled the ingots in my rolling mill to make nice, perfect square ring stock from her melted down gold. It’s always amazing how perfectly gold works. No wonder people have been creating with it for thousands of years.

This ring is a sweet little number from Dryhead Agate…love the stone and its pink feminine hues.

Last but not least…. Wavelite Specimen Stone Necklace…. Beautiful green, textured surface.

Spring Day Today

DSC_1089

I have so much to share and some of it is the weather…. It’s been just awful. It has snowed several times in April…. jeez. So, today it’s finally 50 degrees. What a blessing. A sign of spring is that the gallery near me ‘The Flying Pig’ reopened for their season of tourism. Yippeee! This is great! They have been open a couple weekends now and will open on a daily basis in May. You can visit them in Algoma WI on Hwy 42 (one mile south of town) or visit http://www.theflyingpig.biz.

On a very sad note: The Urban Princess Boutique in Philadelphia has had a fire. It’s an old style downtown building and the store next door to them completely burned down including apartments above. A fireman was killed in the blaze. My heart goes out to the ladies of the Urban Princess. It was their dream to open that store.

They have handled the entire situation with professional grace keeping everyone informed as they had many consignment items. Not that it’s important in the grand scheme of things but my jewelry was really not harmed. It was in a locked glass case that took on some water and smoke damage. The have ‘content’ insurance as well which is in our consignment agreement. I now have my own consignment agreement and my own wholesale agreement for retailers. In a situation just like this it is very important. Bad, unforeseeable things happen. I hope they can recover and reopen their store but it’s going to take them a lot time to just catch their breath. The building is being torn down by a 7 story crane as we speak.

Made some really great stuff this past week in the shop and busy as ever which is good because the summer season will be here quickly. I have to get ready for teaching at the Bead and Button and that is a ton of prep work. Also I will have a nice spread in a jewelry magazine this summer. Yipppeeeee! Thanks to those nice folks that contacted me. I have to proof read the article today. I  can’t tell ya what magazine yet as I am not sure I am suppose to. I will let you know when it’s finalized and off to everyone’s mailbox. Piece of above is a crazy lace agate and citrine. I really enjoyed the hinge style pendant. It creates a lot dynamic that the pendant moves. The bullet shapes on the ends of the hinge are citrines. I could not get a good picture of this piece but I have not taken my time trying either. I will try harder on the photo later.

This is an Laguna Agate and Amethyst…. The purple hues make this stone a favorite of mine.

DSC_1201

This stone is 4 inches long – a whopper! The gemstones are peridot and pink topaz. The pink topaz is a vibrant hot pink, striking.

Last but not least these are some custom wings I have done for people that requested them. The oxidized pair of wings are the best wings yet! They are just the right size about one inch tall and super cool looking together. The tiny wings also look great as a pair. The earrings were by request from a great local customer – thanks!!!!!!!

Off to the shop to get to work…..Might have to take a jog outside for lunch today. It’s finally sunny.
